Yesterday can't buy me love, misery! you never give me your money, eight days a week I'm a loser, she's a woman, she loves you, get back... Drive my car, Back in the USSR, while my guitar gently weeps, girl I call your name: no reply within you, without you, there's a place TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET? I'LL FOLLOW THE SUN ASK ME WHY I FEEL FINE... Hey bulldog, It's only love, let it be... why don't we do it in the road you know my name, all my loving step inside love because I'm so tired TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET? I'LL FOLLOW THE SUN ASK ME WHY I FEEL FINE... (Lucio's sax solo) TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS DO YOU WANT TO KNOW A SECRET? I'LL FOLLOW THE SUN ASK ME WHY I FEEL FINE... (last chorus sung by Dominique) GOOD NIGHT, HELLO GOODBYE, GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE, WAIT! YOU LIKE ME TOO MUCH TELL ME WHY I NEED YOU... (Lucio's second sax solo)

Here's me hidden in the underground And so far I don't mind That's why a-ha you'll find I'm never coming here Buy me all the things I ask for Nothing's too much for me Here more often than not A burst investigating main Never before did it seem what it used to seem Its right by night time So find the right time One day I'll be getting older And so what happpens now on the big screen Or should I leave it all behind You laugh and I can never hear you Never before did I know A bigger chance to be congenial I once had a go on my own Oh no see who's getting nearer All efforts wasted now That's why I'm right believing Everything I see Whats new? "Bulldog Drummonds' peril"? "The tragedy of a switchboard operator"? Another "Weekend World"? Never before did it seem what it used to seem It's packaged right like Gina Lollabridgida You laugh and I can never hear you Never before did I know A bigger chance to be congenial Once had a go on my own You laugh and I can never hear you Never before did it seem what it used to seem...

Maybe I'm a lioness Modern tales of razor legs Oh I, I am not so sure... Holy elephants and fries You can see the great shake's smile Oh I, I am not so sure... And, how could I break my heart in two Je suis fool... Wait, I am mistaking myself heavily Once again... Once again...

This is a particular favorite of mine. The choruses somehow try to reimagine those kind of meters I loved in songs like "Fast Robert", "Don't you ail, flash to the steam" by Spratleys Japs, while the verses are more straight sixties funky oriented... the guitar intro was originally written in 2007, while the coda was improvised during recording, in a period during which I was listening to a lot of "Fractured"-era King Crimson... What it's wrong with my times? This song has been heavily re-arranged live, and it's often played at almost half the speed, totally acoustic and with piano and flute galore...

Everybody knows that "Dirty boy" is the greatest song ever written, no doubt about it. I always loved this song since I first discovered Cardiacs in late 2006, some of you may also know the acoustic cover I did in 2010... (you can find it in the "loyal companion" of the wonderful Tim Smith tribute album "leader of the starry skies") But then my ego grew bigger and bigger, so I said to myself: "why not trying to write some kind of a musical sequel to it?" So, yes, I'm probably crazy, but this song it's me messing around with tons and tons of chords and chord changes - close to the original 237 - trying to replicate all the things I adored in that song, from the big choruses scaling up a semitone to all kind of assorted madness you could imagine... thanks Tim, you're a genius, and a great inspiration... this is for you!

We cut all his eyes we did Squeezed the lids and down the grog into hole He skip with cow eyed smile to the blissful Into craggy dress and WE WILL WE PRAISE HIM WE WILL PRAISE HIM off his pins Clear him of all sins Oh my! We sang with strength to carry on Encouraged him to sing along We sang of all the world and praised him HOORAY! Stay alive to live or without And he is down all over and out Watch us hang on shoulders as tall as gold as Feely hand and finger around all we And look to see if we care if he is heaven sent or Hell bent but WE WILL PRAISE HIM WE WILL PRAISE HIM ALL AWAY Praise him all away My arms chancing and you will no way Live long enough to repay me I praise you anyway always Wipes last with brown and pale Dirty Boy he gone all stale And down the stair and hallway crawling And pig and toast and kitchen brawling Night-time days are all weekless Alarm charm, he's all up and dressed He dirty boy, he bathroom dances And check his jam and breathe on glasses Spiny grip brings all off 'Mr.Regal jelly' in hand Warm feel and suck regal man suck bland Suck bland away and he a sleepy cow-eyed dog He treading soft sand Kiss and stroke and praise him STROKE AND PRAISE HIM All is worth a kiss Not how to cleanse And fowl preserver of sick somehow don't worry now Hold his mouth and stop him breathing Over and out ......... (repeat ad libitum!)

about

A best-of compilation collecting some of the best Sterbus songs we released between 2007 first album "Eva Anger" and 2015 "A Wonderful Distrust" + three Tim Smith covers (from the Cardiacs and Spratleys Japs repertoire) recorded in 2010 ("Dirty Boy)" and 2015 ("Gina Lollobrigida" and "Fear").

After this necessary compendium of early Sterbus we released "Real Estate / Fake Inverno" (a sprawling double album featuring Bob Leith of Cardiacs on drums) in 2018 and "Let Your Garden Sleep In" (a true power-pop affair!) in 2021. Check them all out here on Bandcamp!

"Like many people who were hooked by Cardiacs pretty late in the day, it didn't take me very long to become aware of Sterbus, due to their amazing cover versions of Tim Smith and co's songs. Sterbus re-interprets the songs with great affection and skill, and have an amazing knack of revealing the inner beauty of those songs, exposing nuggets of joy that were usually hidden in the cacophony of the originals.

After playing these songs to death, a fortunate few people start delving into Sterbus' original songs via Youtube and Bandcamp - the rewards to be found here are bottomless. The influences are sometimes easy to spot, but the originality of the music shines through.

What you're listening to is a carefully selected collection of songs spanning several years of Sterbus' career. It is by no means a 'best of' - There are too many great songs out there that did not make it on to this CD.

I am sure you will love this compilation and hopefully you will be hungry for more."

about

Sterbus Rome, Italy

Sterbus are from Rome, but their true musical spirit wanders much further afield, from the joyful power-pop of The Lemon Twigs to the rainy Portland of Elliott Smith and certainly all the South of England's ground-soils Cardiacs and XTC.

"Solar Barbecue" marks their comeback with a new ALL-INSTRUMENTAL opus centered around funny chords, frantic paces and exhilarating arrangements.
